Which is The Best Time to visit Wayanad

Incredible India is full of many attractive and alluring places full of natural life. Wayanad is one of them, a place far away from the hustle. It is known as a Green Paradise, a popular tourist destination and a hill station situated on the south of the Deccan plateau, on the Western Ghats in North Kerala, 1000 m above sea level. Wayanad (district) is blessed with beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, crystal lakes, historical monuments, dense forests, and fertile agricultural estates known for Tea, Coffee & Spice plantations. It is a perfect place for adventure tourism and fun-filled yet refreshing holidays. It has many popular places to visit. Some of them are

  • Edakkal Caves – Rock carvings are priceless reserves of world heritage. The sight links the magnificent nature and the timeless charm of the ancient caves.
  • Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary – This sanctuary houses rare and threatened classes of both fauna and flora. Tigers, deer, Langoors, Elephants, and so many other species of birds and animals can be witnessed in their true habitat.
  • Pookode Lake – is suitable for scenic beauty and a boat trip.
  • Ghat view point – This exciting place in the town is almost 700 meters above sea level. It offers a glance of foggy hills, eminent steep, and a view of the stunning Arabian sea. You can savor the sight of this sunset with your friends and family.
  • Bathery Jain Temple – This sight is the most well-known among Jain ruins spread over Kerala.
  • Chembra Peak – Best visited place for nature lovers to cherish its charm and provides bewildering treks for courageous people.
  • Banasura Sagar Dam – Resting in the lap of Banasura hills is one of the most explored places of Wayanad. It is the second largest dam in Asia.
  • Meenmutty Falls – The peaceful atmosphere and birds’ chirping sound amid the buzzing leaves will make you fall in love with the place.

Wayanad has a comfortable climate throughout the year, with plenty of natural and man-made places. However, before planning a trip to Wayanad, one must know ‘how the weather is in Wayanad & what places to visit. They can plan their holiday and trip according to the most comfortable season.

Wayanad has mainly three seasons.

  • Summer:

    Summer Season in Wayanad

    Wayanad experiences the summer season from March to May. The region’s lowest temperature is around 20*c, and the maximum is around 35*c. The mid-afternoons are often avoided during the season. However, the cool breeze makes mornings and evenings much more comfortable. The mornings and evenings are preferred for sightseeing. Afternoons can be spent exploring the evergreen forests surrounding the hill station as the temperatures are lower, calmer, and more pleasant than in other areas. The Wayanad wildlife sanctuary and the Coffee, Tea, rubber, and Pepper plantations are some allurements that one must not miss when visiting during the season. Mahashivratri in March and Thirunelli in April is celebrated as summer festivals in Wayanad.

  • Monsoon:

    Monsoon Season in Wayanad

    Monsoon begins in June and goes on until September, sometimes till mid-October. Wayanad receives an average annual rainfall (heavy) of over 3000 mm, and the weather remains humid, with temperatures ranging between 17*c and 29*c. However, adventurers, nature lovers, and trekkers can visit for treks, hikes, and nature walks through the dense natural vegetation that engulfs the region. It is a good season for activities like wildlife tours and waterfalls. Some important festivals during the season can also be witnessed, like the day of birth of Lord Krishna and Ashtami Rohini, celebrated in August / September.

  • Winter:

    Best Time to visit Wayanad

    This period is generally considered the peak and the best season for tourism. It starts in October and stays till February end. The hill station’s lowest temperatures experienced in the season are about 10*c, while the maximum is around 24*c. The weather remains misty, breezy during the day, and chilly at night, making it cool and pleasant throughout the season. December to February is considered the peak winter months. The climate is perfect for exploring nature reserves, sightseeing, bird watching, or exploring wildlife. Easter, Christmas, and New Year are some festivals celebrated in the district with great enthusiasm in winter.
    Though the winter season is a favourite among most due to its moderate climate and pleasant weather conditions throughout the year, Wayanad offers a ‘season for all’ for its lovers and tourists.
